Jack comes from a commercial fishermen father and grandfather born and raised in Seadrift. There is not another person that knows the skinny water on Matagorda Island like he does. He has poled every foot of that shoreline! This knowledge is a game changer on weekends and holiday when the bays are crowded.
Jack likes solitude when fly fishing. I have heard him say many times” let’s get out of here; I see another boat!” In my view from fishing with Jack for over 30 years , his strongest trait is his ability to FIND FISH!! I have often returned the next trip by myself to the same spots we caught fish and gotten skunked! His reaction was” well Andrew, those fish have tails!”
He is very patient with less skillful fly casters like myself, always saying” don’t worry let’s find another one.” You will absolutely enjoy your day on the water with Jack. I have caught as many as 20 redfish on fly with him. I have never had a trip where I was disappointed . Honest as the day is long, his type are few and far between.

Captain Jack is so much more than your average Saltwater Fly Fishing Guide. Having spent his entire life exploring the back lakes between Port O’Connor and Rockport has put him in a unique position to comfortably fish the ultra-shallow spots where the tailing reds frequent and man does not. Many days on the water with Jack you will not even see another boat once he hits the back lake mangroves, navigating through tiny sloughs and channels leading into pristine 6’ open flats lakes. Truly a unique experience in the more and more crowded waters of the central coast. If you ask me, what truly sets Jack apart is his ability to teach. He genuinely wants you to catch fish and takes time to share his sage advice on what it takes…

Jack Campbell may be the quintessential saltwater fly-fishing guide. I have had the honor and the pleasure of fishing with Jack many times. He can put you on fish. Jack was responsible for my first redfish on a fly and for many more. His ability to navigate throughout the back-country marshes can only be from decades of doing it. He is also an expert tarpon guide and has put us on big tarpon as well. There is simply no one better at this game than Jack Campbell. He told us on the very first trip that “catching a redfish on the fly will change your life”, and he was right. People that know Jack or have fished with him understand that in addition to being a top flight fisherman, he is a wise and compassionate man and a good friend to have. Thanks for everything Jack.
